We are happy to announce the 2015 Award Categories for the Fair! Keep these in mind when planning your projects.

Delta Regional Heritage Fair 2015: List of Awards

Canada’s History Award A project that best integrates the use of research and visual materials as inseparable elements to successfully present their topic.
The Vancouver Branch UELAC Award An outstanding project concerned with the Loyalists or their descendants. Where there is no project meeting this criterion, the award may be presented to a project related to the settlement and growth of Canada prior to Confederation (1867).
BC Hydro Power Pioneer Award An outstanding project that focuses on a story involving BC Hydro (or its corporate predecessors) or a project related to the history of electricity in BC. Where there is no project meeting this criterion, the award may be presented to a project on a BC pioneer.
BC Heritage Branch Historic Places Award An outstanding project on a historic place in BC which highlights an aspect of history or heritage related to buildings or the built environment.
BC Heritage Fairs Stellar Achievement Award Presented to outstanding students who demonstrate exceptional enthusiasm for history and willingness to share this passion with their peers and community.
Lieutenant-Governor’s Literacy Award An outstanding project that has as its central component a written story demonstrating imagination and historical inquiry. It should be an original work, based on a real person, place, time or event and include references to primary sources.
British Columbia Magazine History Award An outstanding project on a British Columbian historical figure or a significant event in BC history, which took place at a specific location in the province.
Local Historian Award An outstanding project with a theme on the history and/or heritage of Delta or Surrey or that shows strong ties between the topic and the Delta/Surrey region.
Food, Farming and Fishing Award An outstanding project that explores the relationship between people and food, such as the farming and fishing industries, food history, or restaurants.
Family History Award An outstanding project on a student’s family history, and preferably demonstrates connections with the bigger themes of Canada’s history and/or heritage.
Aboriginal Award An outstanding project with an Aboriginal theme, such as the First Nations, Métis or the Inuit.
Significant Canadian Award An outstanding project on a person who has had a significant impact on or has played a significant role in Canada’s past.
Canada and the World Award An outstanding project about Canada’s influence and impact in global affairs, such as peacekeeping.
National Significance Award An outstanding project that highlights an event, institution or movement with nationwide significance or impact. Some examples are (the history and/or heritage of…) the CPR, women’s rights, WWI/WWII, confederation, Spanish flu epidemic, the Depression, or the Royal Canadian Mint.
Industry Award An outstanding project on a Canadian industry.
Sport Award An outstanding project with a sports theme, and preferably demonstrates the impact of this sport, athlete or athletic team on Canadian history, heritage or identity.
Diversity and Culture Award An outstanding project that celebrates cultural diversity and multiculturalism in Canada.
History in the Making Award An outstanding project on a topic within the past 15 years or a project that is outstanding in its ability to link the past with a current event.
Artistic Merit Award An outstanding project that demonstrates excellence in creative and artistic display.
Honorable Mention An outstanding project that does not meet the criteria of any other award.
Student Choice Award Nominated by students.
